If you are reading this article then more than likely you are having problems with your Xbox 360 console. The most common problems are indicated by flashing red lights around the power button, and depending on how many lights are flashing it can mean different problems.
Nearly all Xbox 360 problems are caused by overheating, and as you play your games on the console the motherboard gets quite hot. This is fine to begin with the essentially the motherboard will start to bend and the soldering will snap off and that is normally when you run into the flashing red lights.
If you have the red lights already there are a couple things that you can do to try and fix the console yourself.
The first thing you can do is vacuum all the dust out of the vents on the side and back of the console and then see if it works. As with the build up of dust in a normal household it can prevent the console from cooling itself adequately.
If the above tip has not worked for you another thing you can do is to check that you plug the console directly into a wall plug socket and not into an extension as the difference in power can make the console mess up!
Lastly you can try to remove the hard drive and all the leads on the console and then reconnect them one by one and see if that solves the problem. Because sometimes the hard drive can become clogged and if you detach it, it will clear its cache!
If you have tried the three tips above and you are still having problems then there is a good idea to ring up Microsoft customer support and let them know. The only downside with this is that they will arrange to pick up your broken console and it can take 2 to 3 weeks for you to get a replacement!
I hope this article has helped you solve some of the more common Xbox 360 problems and you get back to your games soon!
